15247: Corbett: Marvelous new addition to my library -- 1835 text.

>From Bob Corbett:

I went to the post office today to collect up my mail and there was a book
which I had purchased long ago and had shipped from England by sea. It is
a small 7 x 4 book bound in lovely multi-colored boards and then the
binding is in lovely leather with lettering in gold leaf. The book was
written by Reveredn Hanna in 1835 and is entitled NOTES OF A VISIT TO SOME
PARTS OF HAITI. JAN. FEB. 1835. It is 153 pages long and the book and
text are in impeccable condition. This is really a great and delightful
find. I haven't read it all yet, but so far it looks like it will shed
light on that period.

Another interesting work, though much less rare than the Hanna text also
arrived. It is called: HAITI: THE ALLY OF THE DEMOCRACIES. It was
written by Dr. I. Lourie and published in Port-au-Prince in 1942. It is
actually quite an interesting book and in English. It has a short essay
on the title topic, then something on the economy. Next sections on
history and various places and notions of interest. A very interesting
text.

Ah, I love the mail and the fascinating stuff that turns up for my
ever-growing library.
