HAITI: NEW POWERS FOR VOODOO Voodoo adherents will now be
allowed to perform legally binding marriages as President
Jean-Bertrand Aristide has given official religious status
to the practice. Voodoo, which developed among slaves,
blends African beliefs and Roman Catholic rituals and has
influenced most parts of Haitian daily life and culture,
