15511: Re: 15502: Ives responds to Wilentz on new housing (fwd)

The houses, at least in ONAVIL by Morne Cabrit, are rather impressive
concrete homes with metal roofs, mostly 2 stories, maybe 1000 square feet
each, with stoops, porches, and lawns, built in rows and painted mostly
white. It looks similar to your typical North American middle class
suburban housing tract.
Katye 2004, near the old airport, is a five-story apartment complex,
painted yellow & mauve, with red roofs, balconies, etc.
Vilaj Renesans is built more like condos, two stories and pink. Looks like
the old Brooklyn row houses.
There are pictures of the new housing in this week's Haiti Progres.
All in all, a far cry from the miserable cinder-block boxes Duvalier used
to throw together and call urban renewal.
