You can meet jewelry designer at MOCA

In celebration of Haitian Cultural Heritage Month, the Museum of
Contemporary Art will feature a ''Meet the Designer'' with jewelry designer
Madafi Pierre from 7 to 9 p.m May 30 at the MOCA Shop.

The event will include a showing of Pierre's ''If Adam . . .'' collection of
handcrafted necklaces, earrings, bracelets and rings.

Pierre has said the name ''If Adam . . .'' is intended to be both a question
and a statement, as in ``What if Adam was black? Or born in Haiti? Or
Brazil?''

Pierre finds inspiration for her designs during travels through the
Caribbean, Europe and United States, and in the sounds of Haitian rara,
hip-hop, funk, salsa, African and Indian music.

Pierre's designs are created from natural stones, precious metals, wood and
leather. Prices range from $40 to $160.
