From: "Hoover, Julie H." <Hoover@pbworld.com>

There is an important sale of Haitian art from the estate of the late Audreon Bratton from June 5th to July 3rd at the Mehu Gallery, 21 West 100th Street in Manhattan, telephone (212) 222-3334.

The gallery hours are: Tuesday-Friday: 11:30-3:00 and 5:00-8:00; Saturday and Sunday 12 noon to 6:00.  The opening reception will be held on Saturday, June 7th from 3 to 6 p.m.

The late Audreon Bratton was an important collector and art dealer in New York City for over forty years.  He was an alumnus of Xavier University of Louisiana and had an interest in enhancing the art education of future students at Xavier University.

As the owner of the Bratton Gallery in Greenwich Village, he exhibited and collected artwork by a number of African American artists living and working in and around New York City.  He exhibited many of these artists early in their careers.  Beyond this, he loved Haiti and Haitian art.  He had an extensive collection and sold Haitian art as well as art by South American and other Caribbean artists.  "Audie", as he was known, helped many collectors establish their collections.

There will be a series of sales in connection with his estate including works of art by Haitian masters such as Wilson Bigaud, Prefete Duffaut, Gerald Paul, Luce Turnier, Bernard Sejourne, and others; works by African American artists including Ernest Crichlow, James Denmark, Dinga McCannon, Virginia Smit, Ann Tanksley, and many others plus artists from the Caribbean, Brazil, and Cuba.  This first sale will focus on part of the Haitian collection and includes many interesting iron sculptures as well as paintings.

This is an excellent opportunity to expand or initiate your collection at reasonable prices.  Proceeds from the sale will support student scholarships at Xavier University.
