16321: Marassa and loans; Simidor and Chamberlain (fwd)
From: DeSprit Marassa <lwasauvaj@hotmail.com>
Marassa thinks loans are very good news if used for intended purpose. Even
if people awarded contracts only skimmed 15% it would not be so bad. But
within Lavalas exists a big black hole where money disappears. For example,
ED1. Big company. Cousin of Aristide. ED1 Building Canadian embassy. Also
alleged to be in top 5 drug dealers in Haiti. So Canada not only providing
soulajmen for criminals like Simeon but now they helping drug dealers
launder money. For Shame.
The point is, as Simidor noted, you don't get the gov't contracts unless you
are very connected. Vorbe's contract to redo laboule is a case in point.
Lavalas now preparing for the big money bamboche. Business as usual.
Chamberlain wants evidence. A little secret from the front lines: Many
people in Haiti know EXACTLY who is doing what, how much they are taking and
from whom they are taking it. Being outside haiti it is far too easy to
forget that it makes no sense to be a whistleblower inside Haiti. Just ask
Jean Do. So if you want to know details on corruption, waiting for the
investigative reporters to put it on the front page of Le Nouvelliste will
be futile. One must spend more than a few weeks in Haiti Cherie.
