2. The Lavalas government is more and more determined to hold legislative
elections before the end of this year. The High Council of the Haitian National
Police (CSPNH), which is chaired by the head of government, held a meeting with
the inactive Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) yesterday. According to
CSPNH and CEP officials, the elections might be held on 23 November and 7
December. CEP President Alix Lamarque said, "Those dates are not confirmed. I will
confirm them soon." (3 min)

3. Prime Minister Yvon Neptune invites all the sectors concerned by the
electoral issue to take it upon themselves to participate in the elections. He also
invites those sectors to disassociate themselves from the violence that is
spoiling the political climate. He reiterates the government's commitment to the
promises it made to the international community, and he underscores the need
to also respect its constitutional commitments, saying, "//This work session
will allow us to pave the way for the CEP that should hold the elections. We
are going to discuss different issues such as the inventory of CEP equipment,
machinery, office, and security. We will also look into the recent census of the
population, the debts that were assumed as well as other obligations that
might exist at the level of the CEP.//" (3 min)

4. The Lavalas Family (FL) is pleased with the choice of 23 November
announced by the current inactive CEP for the holding of the elections so as to avoid
an institutional void in January. (5 min)
