I remember studying in Haitian history that Haiti was part of the UN from
the start.  Haiti's biggest role at the time was that if it were not for
Haiti being considered a French speaking country in the Americas, French
would not have been adopted as the official language of the United Nations.
I guess the French owe Haiti on that one.
