Un chef d'orchestre symphonique d'origine haïtienne.
A symphony orchestra conductor of Haitian origin.
After an extensive, six-month national search, which included input
from parents, students, board, conductors and staff, Greater Twin
Cities Youth Symphonies (GTCYS) is pleased to announce that Mr. Jean
Montès has been named as GTCYS' new Artistic Director.
Mr. Montès will assume his duties in mid-July as the fourth artistic
director in GTCYS' 31-year history. In addition to providing artistic
leadership for the entire organization, which includes eight school
season and two summer orchestras, he will conduct the Symphony, the
most proficient ensemble of musicians.
Mr. Montès currently serves as conductor and music director of the
Greater Cedar Rapids Youth Symphony. He is also Orchestra Director
and a member of the cello faculty at Saint Ambrose University in
Davenport, Iowa and is Orchestra Manager at the University of Iowa,
Iowa City, where he is about to complete his Ph.D. in conducting. He
has worked with the Green Bay Youth Symphony as well as with several
public school music programs both as a staff person and as a
volunteer. Originally from Haiti, Mr. Montès has gone beyond the
performance hall to create dynamic opportunities for young people to
enhance their musical education through tours, summer camps, outreach
initiatives and master classes.
"Mr. Montès musical gifts and his enthusiasm for young musicians are
infectious and I believe he will be a compelling, skilled, and
inspiring mentor for all of us," said Executive Director Chris
Corcoran. "In addition, he will be a tremendous asset to the Twin
Cities' music and art community, bringing new perspectives on the
importance of engaging our next generation of artists, teachers,
parents and leaders."
