VODOU DRUM AND DANCE GROUP PRESENTS RISING SUN: DAY OF THE DEAD ON
NOVEMBER 15 IN BROOKLYN
La Troupe Makandal, New York's center for Afro-Haitian drum and dance,
presents Part One (Day of the Dead) of Rising Sun: a Vodou Drama of Death
and Rebirth in Three Parts. Day of the Dead celebrates Gede (pronounced
Gay-day), the eternal figure in black, the trickster who confounds life
and death, the cosmic comedian. Meet Gede's family: Mama Bridget, the
first Vodou woman; Pretty Boy, who flirts with the President; Gede the
Spider, who weaves destiny; and Baron Samdi, the quintessential corpse.
Drumming and song arrangements by award-winning Master Drummer Frisner
Augustin—"a spectacular drummer," according to the New York Times.
Choreography by Director of Dance and former Groupe RAM member Mikerline
Pierre. Admission at the door: $15 general, $10
students/seniors/members; $5 children. Reservations recommended:
