Announcing the ALOVI GEDE FESTIVAL
                        310 Webster Avenue
                        Cambridge, MA 02141
                        Saturday, November 15th, 2003
                         8 p.m. until 2 a.m.

Jean Apollon and Erol Josue invite you to celebrate The Spirit of Gede in
Cambridge, MA on Saturday, November 15th. This festival is the first public
celebration of the Gede in the Boston area since the recent legal
recognition of Voou by the Haitian Government. As we approach 2004, the
Bicentennial of Haitian Independence, it is fitting that we open the windows
wider on Haiti and the religion of Vodou. The Gede festival is an important
step toward bringing Vodou practitioners and non-practitioners together to
celebrate these spirits of life and death. It will open a ceremonial space
of dynamic expression, of vital communication between sacred and profane
realities.

The festival is organized by Jean Apollon, coordinator/dancer, and Erol
Josue, oungan/artist. Preceding the ceremony, various artists, scholars and
practitioners will begin the evening at 8 p.m. by sharing experiences and
art works inspired by Vodou ritual traditions, particularly the Gede.
Presenters will include Erol Josue, Patrick Sylvain, Linda Barnes, Elsie
Surena, Anna Wexler and others.
