17811: Intervision2000::: PRESS RELEASE N1 ::: Le Groupe des 184 (fwd)

From: InterVision2000 <info@intervision2000.com>

The Haitian people are launching an SOS to their brothers of the diaspora
throughout the world.

Today our country, Haiti, is kept hostage by the Lavalas regime! We are
turning to you, Haitians living abroad, to help us break this chain around
our neck that retains us under the oppression of a tyrant. The president,
Jean Bertrand Aristide, whose rule has been declared "outlawed" in a press
release signed by the majority of representatives of the civil society this
past December 11th, has reigned terror throughout our country. The number
of people killed, severely wounded and reported missing keeps growing
daily. All peaceful
demonstrations exercised against this regime of terror to denounce its
acts of repression, are brutally reprimanded through beatings, stoning,
dispersion using tear gas and with the use of weapons. The means of
dialogue with the regime in place has been exhausted
and the calls of support to the international community represented by the
OAS have born no fruit. We are practically constrained to hope, hope that
is present, but that needs to emerge as a combat... for there can be no
victory without struggle.

The Haitian people are living a moment of extraordinary solidarity where
they stand united as one against the totalitarian rule that exists today.
During the street demonstrations, the back yards of each and everyone is
transformed into refuge areas where citizens being
physically aggressed by "chimeres" and police force members that are
acting under direct orders from the National Palace, gather to retreat and
care for each other. During these moments of distress all people come
together regardless of their color, social class,
education in common support and unison, exchanging words of encouragement
and physically treating the wounds of one another, united in the same
spirit seeking liberty. This is an unforgettable and historical moment
where we are finally living the reconciliation between
social classes in our country and where politics of polarization is coming
to an end.

The tenacity and the determination of the Haitian people in this battle
only augment exponentially as the violence against the population hardens.
We have arrived at a decisive moment where the silence of the lambs waiting
to be slaughtered is no longer acceptable and
where the general mobilization for the liberty of our country is
indispensable.

Diaspora, we urge you to play your part during this historic moment by
bringing your support through demonstrations in the cities and countries
where you live!

Participate in bringing down the mask of the Lavalas regime and letting
the world know that the country is hostage to the tyranny of Jean Bertrand
Aristide. Provide support to this movement of solidarity so that Haiti may
regain its dignity and celebrate once again its
liberty!
