It is horrible that Aristide has to spend a fortune to protect himself, his
family and the other members of Lavalas, some of whom are dead now. I think it
is outrageous that the opposition has made it impossible for Aristide to
spend more time, money and energy on doing the business of the country, such as
education, infrastructure, commerce, agriculture and so on because he had to
always watch his back. How many of us expected him to be assassinated before
this term was through? He isn't paying people to protect him for nothing. If
people didn't want him dead (such as Andy Apaid, who said he would strangle
Aristide if he were brought back to Haiti after the coup), he wouldn't have to
spend a fortune on security. The ever burdened taxpayer has to pay a fortune for
the president's security in this country too. Such is the way of the world,
no?
Don't pretend to care about schools for the poor. If you were truly
concerned, why would you not want Aristide to work his programs? I believe you both
want the same things. He would be doing so much more if not hampered by the
opposition. The opposition stops him from making progress then blasts him for
not making progress. They refuse to have elections and then blast him for
ruling by decree. Thank you, opposition, for teaching me all your dirty tricks so
I can recognize them in my own government. It's all so clear to me now.
