18678: Labrom: Re Jacmel Carnival (fwd)

Well here I am back folks, safe and sound.  Jacmel Carnival was
wonderful - plenty of 'blancs' dancing in the streets as well as
photographers enjoying the colorful crazy mayhem which makes up that
particular Carnival.  There was no problem getting there - thru
Carrefour etc. and in fact we made really good time.

The Carnival was slow getting started - not so much music and activity
on Friday nite and Saturday as is usual, and in fact people were still
painting stands at midday on Sunday - the time it should have started.
Lots of Ministerial presence - Interior, Interim Tourism Minister -
(current Min. of Commerce), Leslie Voltaire - other members of Tourism
Ministry etc.

But the acts were great this year - I think even better than last year
and by 3pm the streets were packed. New acts - such as Butterflies and
Dinosaurs were very very colorful. My group had a blast; the hotels were
not by any means full - they had all had loads of cancellations, which
makes it very difficult for them.  But those people who went all said
how much they enjoyed themselves, and you wouldn't have known there were
problems elsewhere in the country. Proving my theory that Haitians won't
let anyone stop them from having a party!!!
