I don't understand why 20,000 Americans would sound
farfetched or would puzzle people.

How about all the Haitian-Americans who live in Haiti?
Do they count for nothing? Are they part of the
"decor"? Or is the fact that they are most likely
black render them invisible?

That number does not sound unrealistic at all if you
think about the current demographics ... and if you
remember that Haitian-Americans are AMERICANS too.
