19228: Pierre Jean: On the 30 or 32 coups that Haiti has had previously ... (fwd)
From: Pierre Jean <pierrejean2004@yahoo.com>
My inverter went down for a while today, but it is
back up thankfully. So I can pester the history buffs
on the list about something that has been bothering me
for a while.
Aristide made the claim, which has then been picked up
by the "corporate" media without so much as a
double-check, that Haiti has had 30 (or is it 32)
coups in its 200 years of existence.
Can anyone on this list cite for me the presidents who
have been the victims of a coup d'etat since 1804?
How does Haiti compare in that sense with the
Dominican Republic which gained its independence in
1844?
I have stored my Madiou and Pompilus books away and I
cannot get to that location for obvious reasons.
Many thanks.
