19442: Onlythetrue: US Wants Its Cake and Eat it Too (fwd)

Peace Effort
Haiti won independence from France 200 years ago, and French remains
the Caribbean nation's official language. France has been working
with the U.S. and the Caribbean Community group of governments on a
power-sharing arrangement that would retain Aristide and end the
violence. Aristite had agreed to that . The opposition is not feeling the
need to agree because it is clear they are backed by Washington.
French civilian police would go to Haiti ``in the framework'' of a
political settlement and with the mandate of a Security Council
resolution, de La Sabliere said.
Sending U.S. forces to counter the rebellion and protect Aristide
from being overthrown is ``not something that's been in our plans,''
White House spokesman Scott McClellan told reporters in Washington. Why?
Because they provided weapons to what they call the rebel group but they are
a bunch of terrorist, subversive, thug FRAPH members paid by the right wing
that does not want to see the advancement of Haiti. Yes, the same folks that
took so long to recognize Haitian independence are the same as the folks who do
not want black people on the beaches of Florida because of a discriminatory
policy toward Haiti; the refugees are not white like the Cubans.
`We continue to work on the diplomatic efforts,'' McClellan said,
adding that the U.S. backs peace pressure from the international
community and countries such as France and Canada.
Aristide should stay there let the rebel come to Port-au-Prince, "bring it
on." Aristide has to stay, his people have to support him. He gave all he and
his people have to give; bring it on!
The United States wants its cake and eat it too, providing double talk (what
else is new). The official said arrangements could be made for the United
States to ensure Aristide's safe departure if he chooses to step down.
''We're interested in achieving a political settlement,'' President Bush said
during an Oval Office photo session with German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder.
A senior State Department official said that the administration is not
calling for Aristide's resignation. He added that the administration was still
hopeful that Aristide and his opponents can work out a deal.
The longer Aristide stay in power more people will take the boat for Florida
the pressure will on the US. Who provided weapons to the FRAPH organization?
Where were they? Where did they come from with these weapons? Who paid for
this? Were they in the Dominican Republic? Who are there sponsors? Do we want
our cake an eat it too?
