19552: Labrom: Gas/Diesel prices (fwd)

As practically all gas stations are closed, the black market prices have
reached an all new high:
Diesel - H$24 per gallon (approx. US$3) and Gas is H$40 per gallon
(approx. US$5!!!)

Marchands are out working in Pville, tap taps and buses are circulating
normally downtown. Lots of overjoyed demonstrators out celebrating. But
apart from that, nothing is open - banks, supermarkets etc.

Lots of police going around in vehicles, and a few out on the streets.

Glad to hear the peacekeepers are finally coming - they certainly took
their sweet time. A lot of these problems could have been avoided if
they had been here sooner.

One of my photographer clients - who came simply to photograph Jacmel
Carnival and now is photographing the current events, said that
yesterday the chimè's were shooting from the road into the Oloffson. He
said all the journalists were hunkered down behind the reception desk.
Those who had them, had put on their flak jackets!! They were really
thinking that they would come inside the hotel shooting, but thank God
they didn't.
