President Ricardo Lagos announced Monday that Chile will send 120
troops to the international force being assembled to restore order to
Haiti.

The Chilean troops will join forces from the United States, France
and Canada gathering in Haiti after its president, Jean Bertrand
Aristide, fled into exile.

The first 100 Chilean forces will leave in coming days, the president
said.

"The facts have shocked us and hit us all and call on us to take our
responsibility as a country," Lagos said, adding that he expected
Brazil to also send troops.
