19614: Morse: late night rambling (fwd)

From: OLOFFSONRAM@aol.com

To say that Aristide was a democratically elected president deserves an
asterick. To say that he was a democrat means that we have to re-define
<democracy>. You reap what you sow and its harvest time in Haiti. If you
don't provide democratic means of opposition then people will find
alternative means. Aristide armed his backers and when it came to crunch
time they looted, broke into depots, banks, markets, stole cars,
destroyed a tv station and a radio station, just to name a few heroic of
the heroic deeds. They did not go to Tabarre to protect him. They did not
go to the palace to protect him. If US policy averted a bloodbath in
Port-au-Prince, thats a good thing. When a government is shooting
students or journalists in the name of democracy, its time to re-evaluate
the chosen path. Lavalas can still be a political force with the right
leadership. There are a lot of Haitians out there who need and deserve
political representation. Lets hope they find it. Anyone can destroy.
Building is whats difficult. Its time to build.
