I will also concur with DeGraff on the conditional use of "si" and the accuracy
of the Valdman translation.  Aristide's resignation letter is/was indeed
conditional.

I would also add, given the style to which the letter was written in, it seems
to authenticate or is in line with Aristide's poetic line breaks. He tends to
write metaphoric statements in four lines with five to seven words per line.
