Look at who gets Social Security

In response to your article of Feb. 26, "Greenspan calls for cuts,"
regarding Social Security and Medicare: I'm one of those Baby Boomers who
just turned 57, and a four-year veteran of Vietnam.
I was extremely angry and appalled about two years ago, when a man from
Haiti who worked at my place of employment informed me that he comes to the
United States every year for six months, so that he will be able to collect
Social Security benefits when he decides to retire. He then goes back to
Haiti, his family and his grocery store business and starts all over again.
If that's not bad enough, he rarely performed his minimal duties at work,
and then left after six months, with a big grin on his face saying, "See you
next year."
When I saw him come back this year to be rehired for another six months, I
couldn't believe it. Thank God management remembered his past work
performance and didn't rehire him. I'm sure he found employment elsewhere
doing nothing. He didn't care about how much salary he was making, only that
he put in his six months, and did as little as possible.
This leads me to think that our federal laws should be looked at, regarding
our Social Security and who's eligible. Foreigners taking money out of our
pockets and back home to their country, where they can retire and live a
more prosperous life than Americans, doesn't sound right to me.
Our government ought to begin looking at reality, instead of cutting
benefits of Americans, who will have to live and maybe struggle after
working hard all their lives.
