20978: Vishnusurf: Re: 20975: Marassa for Esser: troika of credibility

the folks that marassa praises and esser dismisses are too engaged in the
struggle to bother producing "bodies of writing" in english about haitian
politics for foreign consumption, but they certain ARE "shining lights"
when it
comes to portraying haiti's quotidien reality. meanwhile, if someone
cannot
find impressive political vision in the music of boukman eksperyans, or
even in
their videos, i would suggest that s/he look and listen anew (and/or
improve his/her creole). i would like to add wycleff jean to marassa's
list...
he has some powerful political statements in his newest music. might we
add
raoul peck? i recall both peck and trouillot (and maybe gary victor?) a
couple
months ago publishing incisive letters in major US papers calling for
aristide's resignation.. corporate media, perhaps, but far more reliable
than a
the black commentator. hurbon, meanwhile, is only haiti's leading
intellectual
and he has expressed himself most impressively in public fora over the
last few
years, denouncing aristide as a violent dictator. it took tremendous
courage
for all of these people to publicly speak, sing, write, and cry out
against
the aristide regime. to suggest that the trioka are more worth believing
than
these folks is appalling bornee, not to mention delusional. i would
suggest,
with wycleff, "si'w gin zoray, tande!"
kudos to marassa for defending these wonderful gems of haitian souls. if
one
chooses to rely on foreign journalists with obvious ideological biases,
then so
be it... i for one will listen carefully to people like eddy francois, who
years ago sang the truth of the matter: "Neg anwo, gade neg anba!"
