Port au Prince, April 1, 2004 - (AHP)- The judge
who presided over the Raboteau Massacre trial back in
September 2000, was severely beaten Wednesday evening
in his residence by heavily armed individuals.
Since the ouster of Jean Bertrand Aristide Feb 29,
2004, judge Napela Saintil said

he has been receiving daily death threats from
unidentified individuals reproaching him of having
conducted the trial that lead to the conviction in
abstentia of Louis Jodel Chamblain, then number two of
 the violent paramilitary organization Revolutionary
Front for the Advancement of Haitians ( FRAPH).
Chamblain is presently the number two of the Armeé du
Nord labeled “the band of thugs” by US Secretary of
State Colin Powell.

Judge Saintil’s life was saved by a passing police
patrol vehicle. He nevertheless had to seek treatment
at a clinic in the capital.

According to testimonies given by several
eyewitnesses at the time of the trail, the massacre
was perpetrated during the night of April 22, 1994 by
military officers and members of FRAPH operating
under the directives of Emanuel Toto Constant and
Louis Jodel Chamblain.
