21179: Esser: Re: 21168: Marina: ANALYSIS OF ASSETS & THEIR SOURCE - HAITI & GOVERNMENT (fwd)
From: D. Esser toprx@joimail.com
I had hoped for an analysis... While I don't know the intricacies of
asset declaration in Haiti, I gladly answer your question regarding:
where does the money for chartered planes etc. come from. It does
come from people like you and me concerned about the rule of law and
democracy. I just attended an event were many people came forward,
quite a few of them with large sums of money, to contribute for the
Haitian struggle for self determination. Maxine Waters contributed a
thousand dollars as did several others and many more contributed with
sums large and small out of concern for Haiti. I have personally
spoken to lawyers that have worked with the, elected, President of
Haiti Jean-Bertrand Aristide, in the past, and guess what? It's not
where the big money is, nobody joins the hardship of bringing the
likes of Jean Tatoune to justice for solely monetary rewards. It's
just not where the big money is.
You have an interest in the accumulation of wealth in Haiti.
It may be also of interest to you, how the likes of Andy Apaid got
their wealth. Not really by following Haitian labor laws and
standards of moral conduct. The literature is rich on that topic and
therein also lies a big part of the problems that Haiti faces: the
accumulation of wealth through semi-feudal means and the absolute
disregard for the Haitian people their laws and well being. I refuse
to speculate too, it's not necessary when the facts are on the table.
If there is any grain of truth to the vast accumulation of assets by
members of Lavalas, I have yet to be presented with any kind of
convincing proof. I assume you face the same predicament, as you
would have surely supplied us with all the facts about that.
Rumors about the unjust accumulation of wealth are just a smokescreen
behind which some people hope the quite unpopular government that
came to power via Boca Raton instead of elections might be able to
hide. The truth is -- no screen of smoke will be dense enough to cover
the already committed outrages by this undemocratic government. The
Haitian people know to well that whatever Lavalas did do or didn't do,
it
will have been not as bad for them, as a person such as Jodel
Chamblain playing judge and executioner and they know too well what
to expect from former FRAPH members, that the de facto government
touts as "freedom fighters".
