21245: Esser: Food Security in Haiti (fwd)
From: D. Esser torx@joimail.com
To all the people that constantly paint a picture of despair under,
trough or with Aristide and Fanmi Lavalas: you might want to look at
the whole picture and at all the facts including observations by the
UN World Food Programme (WFP): While 17 nations worldwide fell back,
22 nations - including Haiti actually managed to move forward,
_reducing the threat of hunger_ in the late 1990s. In the case of Haiti
that means the undernourished declined from 65 percent of the
population to 49 percent and that while the population increased by
about one million people and with relatively little external aid in
comparison to other countries. The numbers speak for themselves and
while I am not saying the ancien (?) President did it, or something
along those lines, it is very clear, that for many people in Haiti,
Lavalas and it's governments had a positive influence in their lives
apart from the often cited improvements in the educational sector or
in health matters. "State of Food Insecurity in the World 2003,"
released in November of 2003 by the WFP
