In plain view usually refers to being visible from the outside.
Police in countries such as the U.S. need a warrant to search a home
and evidence collected by an unauthorized search when the offending
materials were not visible to the officers trough the windows etc.
would not necessarily be admissible in court. But luckily we don't
live in a country were the government or branches of the executive
can enter homes with sledgehammers to look for incriminating
material, or do we?

No hilarity. Legal definition of "in plain view" is that drugs were
on surfaces INSIDE doors (however opened) as opposed to within
closets, chests, drawers, etc.
Better to check with a policeman or a lawyer than a philosopher for
these
definitions.(-: kb
