21426: McCalla: Ready to step forward in 2004? -- NYC
From: Jocelyn McCalla <jmccalla@jmcstrategies.com>
Dear Friend,
Do you count yourself among those who are ready to step forward together
with others in 2004? Ready to celebrate Haiti’s bicentennial by joining
others in affirming Haitians’ presence and contributions in the US? Ready to
engage in a dialogue with others about the essence of the Haitian agenda in
the US and how to move it forward? Ready to pool resources so that a strong,
united Haitian voice emerges and resonates strongly in policymaking and
lawmaking circles? Ready to fight against discrimination, for refugee and
immigrants rights, decent healthcare and education, democracy and human
rights?
Whether or not you are ready to step forward in 2004, please join us this
coming Saturday April 24 at NCHR’s agenda-setting conference for 2004. I
invite you to register now, not the day of the conference to help ensure an
orderly, smooth registration and organizing process.
The meeting will start off with registration as early as 8:00 AM at:
NYU School of Law
Furman Hall
245 Sullivan Street
New York NY 10012 (Manhattan)
The nearest metro (subway) stop is West 4th street where the A, D, E, and F
trains stop. You can also take the West Side trains #1 and #9 to Christopher
Street. There will be ample parking facilities near the conference site.
Saturday April 24 promises to be a pleasant Spring Day in the heart of
Greenwich Village.
Invited panelists include Alix Cantave from the Local Initiatives Support
Corporation, Tatiana Wah from the New School for Social Research, Dr.
Edouard Hazel, past President of the NY Chapter of the Haitian Medical
Association Abroad, Margie McHugh from the NY Immigration Coalition, Farah
Tanis from DwaFanm, Michele Luc from Global Kids, Yanick Eveillard from the
National Haitian Health Association.
We invite you to join us early and throughout the entire day. The conference
is structured so that each participant has an opportunity to contribute to
the day’s deliberations on every topic listed in the program. No one will be
left behind. We also hope that you will join us later at S.O.B.s on Houston
and Varick Street for a post-conference party.
For more information about the conference, please visit www.nchr.org. There
you will find a registration form that you can print, fill and fax to us at
your earliest convenience. You can also call Fiona Peck at (212) 337-0005
ext. 305 to discuss your needs and participation.
We want to put YOU at the center of policy preoccupations at City Hall, in
Washington, at the UN and in Port-au-Prince. Please remember that a large
turnout is sure to communicate a strong statement to public and private
sector officials, to donors and foundations that Haitians are on the march
and plan on strengthening their voice so it can be heard at City Hall and in
Congressional chambers.
Sincerely,
Mr. Jocelyn McCalla
