21474: KWhite Re: 21431: Steczynski: Ties between Poland and Haiti (fwd)
From: Krista White <librisia@optonline.net>
History texts I've read indicate that when Napoleon sent armies to put
down the revolution, some of the soldiers in the army he sent were
Polish conscripts (unwillingly drafted).
Many of these Polish soldiers deserted Napoleon's army and joined forces
with the Haitians fighting for their liberty and dignity. Images of Our
Lady of Czestochowa probably came from these Polish soldiers. Vodou
folklore has it that Dantor took part in the revolution, furthering the
link to revolutionary history.
