21592: Esser: Saving Lives? (fwd)

From: D. Esser torx@joimail.com

According to the new-speak of the Homeland Security people, the
Haitians are migrants and are returned for their own safety. Cynical
indeed and one has to wonder why before February 29th of this year
there was barely a trickle of refugees. If Jean-Bertrand Aristide was
indeed so bad, how come Haitians did not feel the desire to leave
before his ouster? Did Latortue maybe speak French, when he revealed
that Haitians are now getting shot by "freedom fighters"? It must
have gotten lost in translation.

It would be more honest to say that the repatriation isn't strictly
adhering to international law and that Floridian votes are at stake.
It also looks kind of bad to have the people fleeing a government
that was installed by the U.S.

From a U.S. Coast Guard Press Release:

"Our stepped-up presence off the coast of Haiti continues for the
purpose of saving lives; by rescuing those already on the water in
boats, and by deterring those who may be considering migration by
sea," said Capt. Wayne Justice, Acting Seventh Coast Guard District
Commander.
