Enclosed is information about an internship position as a Haitian
Community Educator at the New Jersey Immigration Policy Network Haitian
Community Outreach Program. If you know of anyone who is interested please

INTERNSHIPS AVAILABLE
New Jersey Immigration Policy Network, Inc. (NJIPN/Network) is a
broad-based statewide immigration coalition that has committed its
resources to the immigrant and refugee populations for the State of New
Jersey by initiating and supporting a wide-range of activities to ensure
respect, dignity and justice for all newcomers to the United States.
The Haitian Community Outreach Project is a comprehensive outreach
initiative designed strengthening existing community support networks
and establish new ones to develop crime preventive strategies and
programs; empower Haitian entrants to be more proactive on their own
behalf; and collect detailed information identifying the needs of the
community.
Position: HAITIAN COMMUNITY EDUCATOR
The Haitian Community Educator will work under the supervision of the
Haitian Project Coordinator.
Staff will reach out to targeted constituencies to educate the Haitian
community about NJIPN's Haitian outreach initiative. Staff will concentrate
their efforts statewide but will work closely with New Jersey Haitian
Student Association to empower Haitian youth and help organize events as
they arise.
In addition, a Haitian community Educator will assist with
administrative responsibilities as needed.
Examples of Work:
* Contact organizations and community groups to schedule
presentations.
* Provide Organizations with materials (bios, background info,
flyers, etc.)
* Inform individuals/organizations of the work of New Jersey
Haitian Student Association
* Inform individuals/organizations of the work of NJIPN on other
issues
* Assist in routine updating of event and contact database.
* Assist in collecting request from the hotline
* Assist with large mailings and organization of events for the
Haitian Community.
Knowledge and Abilities:
* Excellent oral, written, and communication skills, especially
public speaking
* Exceptional time management skills
* Exceptional computer skills, including familiarity with
Microsoft Access.
* Knowledge of the general Haitian population, culture, customs,
etc.
* Ability to be an effective motivator
Required Experience:
* Fluency in Creole and English. (French and Spanish is a plus)
