Flag Day in Haiti

04:50 [min. into news] Flag Day in Haiti: Kevin Pina, interviewed by
Nora
Barrows-Friedman, describes shootings and attacks of peaceful
demonstrators by the Haitian National Police, observed by US Marines
who stood by and did nothing. The demonstration calling for the
return of the Constitutional President, Jean Bertrand Aristide, had
been approved by the imported Prime Minister and officials in charge
of police and security. Marines taunted demonstrators, then moved
back to allow the police to fire indiscriminently into the crowd.

"Not only was I threatened [with arrest] by the US Marines, but I was
shot at twice by the special tactical squad of the Haitian National
Police that the US Marines ignored, and [allowed to] violently
repress the non-violent demonstration of Lavalas to demand the return
of President Aristide today in Haiti..."
