CALL FOR PAPERS
A SPECIAL ISSUE OF CALLALOO
ON HAITIAN WRITER & ARTIST FRANKTIENNE
In celebration of some forty years of artistic production by Haitian
writer and
artist, Franktienne, Callaloo plans to publish in 2005 a special issue
under
the guest editorship of Dr Jean Jonassaint (Duke University).
In addition to a portfolio of Franktienne's paintings and translations of
excerpts of his writings, substantial articles (20-30 pages double space)
are
sought on (1) specific major publications, mainly Ultravocal, Dzafi,
Plin-Tt, Kaselezo, Adjenoumelezo, L'Oiseau schizophone, H'ros-Chimres; (2)
specific series or periods of his painting in comparison to Haitian or
Caribbean visual arts, and contemporary aesthetics; (3) major aspects of
his
work in the context of Haitian, Caribbean or Francophone literatures, or
in
relation with some broad literary or aesthetic issues.

accordance
with the "Guidelines for Contributors" available at
http://www.press.jhu.edu/journals/callaloo/guidelines.html, should be
submitted
by December 10, 2004 to Callaloo (Department of English, Texas A&M
University,

Callaloo, the premier African and African-American literary journal,
publishes
original works and critical studies of black writers worldwide. The
journal,
edited by Professor Charles H. Rowell and published by The Johns Hopkins
University Press, offers a rich mixture of fiction, poetry, plays,
critical
essays, cultural studies, interviews, and visual art, as well as special
thematic issues.
