The best thing about Vodou is, there is no authority but the ancestors.
Anyone can call the lwa.  Anyone can make a ceremony.  If a mambo or oungan makes
themselves knowledgeable about herbal medicine, they can be very helpful as
healers (doktè fèy) but anyone who has received the lwa from their families, is
an expert on the religion and knows how to get the protection the lwa offer.
Respect is earned not demanded.  It will come when it is appropriate.  ;)

I don't think Haitians care how either word is spelled, they only know they
believe.  The lwa don't care either, I bet!
