"Creole and French are at the present both the official languages in Haiti.
Both languages are of Latin origin and they both use the same Latin
alphabet. The "Phonetic-spelling" of "MAMBO" in Haitian Creole is based on the
French language in contrast to other Creoles, which are based on English,
Spanish, Portuguese, etc."
Creole is of Latin origin? Where did you get that? News to me.
Vietnamese (another impoverished former French colony) also uses the
"Western" alphabet system, complete with diacriticals, but that doesn' t dictate
spelling. The orthography of Creole may have some basis in French representation
of phonemes, but its spelling is not dictated by French.
