22716: Minsky: July 17 last day of screenings as Jacmel Film Festival wraps up (fwd)

Fri and Sat. are the last two day of screenings as the Jacmel Film Festival
wraps up...it can only be called a sucess. And as one Jacmelian said,
I thought they were crazy when they proposed this, but I thought let them
go ahead and try. I didn`t know it would be like this!!!

The organizers showed the sceptics and nay sayers that a festival of
scope, quality and inclusiveness could take place. Highlights
of the nightly screenings of 2-3 films on the blocked off main street,
the filmmaking workshops at Alliance Francaise, every morning following
a screening of a film and then dialogue with the director, and
the outreach program which made contact with community groups in villages
outside of Jacmel and then each day  helped transport from aa village
a bus or tap tap filled with folks to attend the festival.

A cadre of Jamaican visitors(there were some Jamaican films) and Cubans
(Cuba Haitian films) were also in attendance. People drove up from
PAP for a day or two stay. It was fun to see the Film poster announcement
on the road from PAP before you make the Jacmel turn.

There will be an awards ceremony at the end of the festival,
some performance art and a party on Sunday.

Will Jacmel become the Croix des Bouquets of Haitian Filmmaking.
