22854: Benson: HSA call for papers

The Haitian Studies Association, an international scholarly organization
committed to the study of aspects of Haiti, will hold its sixteenth annual
meeting October 6-8 at the University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras campus,
at the
invitation of the University of Puerto Rico. Please note that the
Congress of
Santa Barbara (KOSANBA), a scholarly organization devoted to the study of
study
of Haitian Vodou will have its VI International Colloquium conjointly with
Haitian Studies Association.
The theme for Haitian Studies, appropriately for this 200th anniversary
year,
centers on the uses of Haitian history as important material for the
construction of the future. The KOSANBA theme this year uses the Gede
spirits
as a trope for the life and death struggles of the Haitian people.
