"CRUISING INTO HISTORY" MUST MAKE ITS POSITION CLEAR
On February 29, in the Bicentennial of the Haitian Revolution,
Haiti's democratically elected government was overthrown.
Since then, thousands of democratically elected Haitian officials -
at all levels - have been removed from office by those who were
elected by no-one.
Haiti's fledgling democracy has been trampled and stamped upon, and
Haiti is once again being presented to the world as an "object of
ridicule and an object of pity."
People of African descent the world over share in that shame, and we
share in Haiti's pain.
As it plans to take well-meaning and trusting African-Americans to
Haiti to commemorate the Bicentennial of the Haitian Revolution,
"Cruising Into History" has a moral obligation to make absolutely
clear its opposition to those who directly and indirectly
participated in the overthrow of the democratically elected
Government of Haiti. Failure to do so will be interpreted as support
for all those who colluded to overthrow the government that the
Haitian people had elected.
