   TAMPA, Fla., Aug 11 (AP) -- Two Haitian immigrants will be deported
after admitting they persecuted people in their homeland, U.S. Immigration
and Customs Enforcement officials said Wednesday.
   Both men were detained last week. They entered the United States
illegally through the Virgin Islands in the mid-1990s and settled in Fort
Myers, said Pamela McCullough, spokeswoman for the Immigration and Customs
Enforcement office in Tampa.
   The deportations are based on information the men provided to officials
during hearings to determine whether they would be granted asylum.
   Gaspard Louis, 40, said he had served in the Haitian army and had
randomly shot into crowds and used force to break up demonstrations
supporting former Haitian President Jean-Bertrand Aristide, immigration
officials said.
   Lenol Charles, 38, admitted belonging to a paramilitary group in Haiti.
He said he was a spy, reporting on opponents of the group, and knew his
reports would lead to their execution, according to officials.
