Demonstration in Miami Regarding Father Gerard Jean-Juste's arrest
October 21st, 2004
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
What: Protesting the Illegal Arrest of Father Gerard Jean-Juste
When: Friday, October 22nd, 2004
Time: 3-5 PM
Where: Haitian Consulate, at 259 SW 13th Street
Miami, Florida
Who: Veye Yo, Haitian and Allied Community Leaders, Family Members, and
Supporters of the Detained Priest
Join Veye Yo and Haitian community leaders at the Haitian Consulate,
at 259 SW 13th Street, from 3pm and 5pm, on Friday October 22nd, to
protest the illegal arrest of Father Jean-Juste in Port-au-Prince,
Haiti, which occurred while he was inside of his church in Haiti
feeding the poor children of Ste. Claire. His arrest by the
U.S.-selected and illegitimate government of Haiti has sparked the
anger of his broadly-based supporters in Haiti and the U.S.,
including U.S. elected officials and members of human rights and
other civic organizations. The demonstration in front of the
Consulate housing officials of the de facto government of Haiti will
demand them to free Father Jean-Juste, elected officials, and other
political prisoners now, and to end the climate of violence in which
thousands of supporters of democracy have been killed, jailed, or
forced into hiding or exile since the February 29, 2004 coup.
