February 2005

Haiti Solidarity Week Events and Beyond

Coordinated days of activity:

February 20: Faith Reflection

On Sunday February 20 we are calling on faith communities to have
a reflection on the situation in Haiti. We have some materials to
help with this on our website - or give us a call and we will send
it to you. Take up a collection for Haiti to help with reconstruction
needs.

February 23: National Call-in Day to Congress

February 28: International Vigil

President Aristide was forced out of the country on February 29,
2004. On the evening of February 28, 2005 we will honor the
victims of the coup d'etat and the ongoing violence, while demanding
a return to democracy for Haiti. Join thousands of others around the
world by organizing a vigil in your community. All you need are a
few candles, some friends, and an open space to gather. Try to get
some press to your event (see our website, or call us for ideas on
how to do this).

Thursday February 24th:
**Call Sen. McCain and Rep. Kolbe.
Let them know that the blood of the 10,000 dead in Haiti is on their

the Haitian people. Demand the return of Aristide to his rightful
office, and an end to the anti-democratic efforts of the IRI in
Haiti and around the world. Let them know that death squad rule
and lawlessness are criminal and unacceptable.

Call Rep. Raul Grijalva and thank him for his support of the
Haitian people and their struggle for democracy. Urge him to
endorse legislation to be sponsored by Rep. Barbara Lee calling for
investigations into the US role in the Haitian coup. Urge Rep.
Grijalva to call for hearings to study the role of the
International Republican Institute in the Haitian coup.
