24553: Hermantin (Information) Sant La seeks to dispel myths about disabilities
SANT LA WELCOMES A NEW PARTNER AGENCY, CCDH, AND
REACHES OUT TO PEOPLE WITH
DISABILITIES AND THEIR
FAMILIES
Sant La Urges Parents of Children with Disabilities
in the Haitian Community
of
North-East Dade to take advantage of
the many services available through
CCDH.
Miami, FL (March
22, 2005) ? Haitian Neighborhood Center, Sant La, welcomes
a new
partner, CCDH: Creating One Community. Daniel Salnave, a CCDH
representative stationed at Sant La, will help parents of children
with
disabilities identify, access and advocate for the supports
and services
they need and want. These services include therapy,
in-home supports,
medical supplies and equipment, after-school
programs, training programs,
and more...
'We wish to help
parents in the Haitian community become informed about our
services
and resources in the hopes that their children with disabilities
will obtain services, and that the family will gain the knowledge
and skills
necessary to be strong advocates for their children"
said Mr. Salnave,
Outreach and Advocacy Specialist,
CCDH.
Sant La and CCDH have launched this initiative through a
grant from the
Children's Trust. In addition to helping
Haitian-American parents increase
their awareness of available
services, the project seeks to help dispel
myths about disabilities
and encourage the community to be more accepting of
children who
have them. Mr. Salnave is available to make presentations to
community groups, including faith-based, school-based, parents and
others.
The Haitian Neighborhood Center, Sant La is a
not-for-profit One Stop
Neighborhood Center whose purpose is to
empower, strengthen and stabilize
the Haitian-American community of
South Florida through the coordination of
service delivery in the
areas of social services, education, economic
self-sufficiency and
access to health care.
