24609: Heusel (ask) Question about proverb
Jennifer Heusel <jheusel@indiana.edu>
I am researching affranchis history in Haiti and found a "proverb" that says:
A rich Negro is a Mulatto, but a poor Mulatto is a Negro. My sources only have
it translated and provides no reference or perspective on the context in which
it was said. Could anyone on the listserve clarify this proverb (if it really
is one) or point me to references that may help?
