IMHO Haiti's rich, many-faceted art forms are an important reminder to her
people and the rest of the world that Haiti's cultural soul continues to
survive and triumph. The arts can raise consciousness to call a people to
action and if the call is loud enough, it is heard far beyond a nation's
borders.
In times of upheaval and strife art can speak to the world more loudly than
cannon; witness the phenomenon of Picasso's Guernica, the centerpiece for
the Spanish Pavilion of the 1937 World's Fair. Through their craft, Haiti's
artists can make their nation's agony known to all.
