I agree that the poor AND middle class Haitians would be happy protected by
a U.S. protectorate BUT the heated howls from the ideologues and comfortable
in Haiti AND the U.S. would melt what remains of the ice cap at such a
revolutionary and ultimately practical idea. The opportunity to explore
caves with ancient Indian pictographs and unspoiled beaches in safety would
be simply overlooked.
