25767: Re. 25743: Haiti: College in a Country That Struggles to Survive (fwd)

From: Dr. Rich Gosser <rgosser@hisurfer.net>

The University of Fondwa 2004 is a unique educational venture that aims to
educate the daughters and sons of Haitian peasants to become agents of
positive change in their own rural communities. This "university of the
mountains" offers faculties in agronomy, veterinary medicine, and business
management and hopes to contribute to the formation of a new generation of
leadership for Haiti that shares a strong social commitment and a vision for
sustainable development. It is part of a comprehensive vision of economic
and social development that includes the Fonkoze "alternative bank for the
organized poor", the Association of Peasants of Fondwa (APF), and the
University of Fondwa 2004 (UNIF).

A principal supporter of the University of Fondwa 2004 is "Partners in
Progress" (PIP), which has been promoting and supporting the Fondwa
community-based model of sustainable development that focuses on
infrastructure, health care, small business development, and above all,
education for children, youth, and adults for more than three years. More
information about the University of Fondwa 2004 is available on the PIP
website <www.PIPHaiti.org> and at <www.UNIF2004.org>. Support for UNIF 2004
and inquiries about the project can be directed through PIP.
