Amid Strife, Haiti Seeks Sense of Order
News & Notes with Ed Gordon, July 19, 2005 · As a
Brazilian-led U.N. peacekeeping force works to
maintain some sense of order, Haiti has endured
gang-style violence, a rash of kidnappings and, once
again, a hurricane. Brazil's president says his troops
need help, and the United Nation's Kofi Annan agrees.
Farai Chideya speaks with journalist Michael Deibert,
who's just returned from Haiti, about the strife, and
about efforts to conduct local, parliamentary and
presidential elections.
