We are in agreement. A government exists to serve its people. To the the
extent that taxes benefit the many, they are just. People must be sustained
and educated to that they can become a productive labor force, capable of
feeding and caring for themselves, rising above government-provided
subistence and themselves contributing to the public good.
In the US, this was exemplified by President Roosevelt's response to the
great depression. It was imperfect, there was still hunger and homelessness
but there was also hope.
