27140: Moose (ask)-- Corbett replies: re: Haitian Presidents for Life (fwd)
If Papa Doc was the eighth, and Baby Doc was the ninth [with Mammy Doc behind
the throne of both], who were the first seven? An inquiring mind wants to know
and research has yet to turn up the answer.
Thanks, in advance-
Anon E. Moose

Bob Corbett replies:
The first 7 were:
1. Dessalines (actually served 2 years) --assassinated
2. Christophe (13 years) -- suicide
3. Petion (11 years) -- died in office
4. Boyer (25 years) -- overthrown
5. Soulouque (12 years) -- overthrown
6. Geffrard (8 years) -- overthrown
7. Salnave (2 years) -- executed
Of the 18 leaders who served in the 19th century only TWO served full
term:
Nissage-Saget (1870-1874)
Tiresias Simon Sam (1896-1902)
