From: Jd Lyall <postmaster@lyalls.net>This is all very entertaining, but I do have to comment on this assertion that Batay Ouvriye is next to unknown.
In my experience Batay is known. There have been numerous radio stories about the wanaminth labor struggle and there was an interview with Yanick Etienne (sp?) on television last spring. She was composed and articulate, unlike many porte parole one sees on political issues in Hayti. I did not know that Yanick was a woman, frankly. My grasp of Haytian names is incomplete.
The comparison with the local spokesperson for the Haiti Progress party's spokesperson was stunning.
BO is as unknown and marginal as ever. In myexperience, most Haitians have never heard of it, and those that do know it, see right through its infantile slogans.
